How do we use simple past tense?
The past tense is a verb tense expressing action, activity, and state of being in the past.
Use the simple past to express the idea that an action started and finished at a specific time in the past.

FORM
  1. VERB + (e)d
  2. Irregular verbs (This means that the simple past tense doest not end in -ed.)

Examples
Verb + (e)d


  • I enjoyed Math class yesterday. (enjoy - enjoyed)
  • I passed my ball to Jack. (pass - passed)
  • I finished my homework. (finish - finished)
  • I started to study English.(start - started)
  • I liked to stay in the classroom. (like - liked)

Irregular verb
  • I saw an English movie at school. (see - saw)
  • I wrote a letter to my friend. (write - wrote)
  • I drew a picture yesterday. (draw - drew)
  • I went to school at 8 o'clock. (go - went)
